Essay Debrief
Schulich has only 1 written essay for Fall 2020 intake. Here it goes:
How will the Schulich MBA degree help you achieve your short and long-term career goals? (please limit your answer to 350 words)
This is a very straight forward question. Let us break it down.
What are your short-term goals?
What are your long-term goals?
Why MBA?
Why Schulich?
If you answer the above 4 questions you will have a pretty-good skeleton of what you want to say in your essay.
If we go through the application tips by Schulich, apart from the obvious written communication skills, ad-com wants to access your FIT to its program. Here, your research about the school’s MBA program will come in handy. Why do you think Schulich is the best school for you to achieve your goals? How will pursuing an MBA at Schulich help you achieve those goals? Fitting your answer within the word limit of 350 is also challenging. But please adhere to it. Apart from the essay above Schulich application requires:
- One timed written essay
- Two video essays
- Resume
- Two References
The timed written essay is similar to your AWA in GMAT. You will have to think and write your response on-the-spot within 5 minutes. This is tricky but I’m sure your AWA practice will come in handy.
Video essays are being adopted by more and more business schools as an additional tool to evaluate a candidate. It does not just test your oral communication skills but also your spontaneous thinking and overall presentation skills. You will get 2 sample questions to practice on before the actual questions but its not a bad idea to practice more especially if you’re camera conscious.
